BREAST ENLARGement: TYPES OF BREAST IMPLANTS
More information
About a breast enlargement
Breast implants are available in different shapes, sizes, surfaces and fillings. Today the in- and outside of breast implants are 100% made out of silicone. Below you will learn about the most common prostheses and their advantages and disadvantages and our preferences.
BREAST ENLARGement: FILLING OF THE PROSTHESIS
There are two types of prosthesis for breast enlargements: filled with liquid gel and cohesive silicone gel. The liquid gel implant is the oldest method. In the nineties there was a lot of bad publicity about these implants. At one stage this prosthesis was banned from the United States.
BREAST ENLARGement: BREAST IMPLANTS WITH LIQUID GEL
The prosthesis filled with the liquid silicon gel is the supplest and most natural. Applying the silicone gel in the upright position will make the implant have the shape of a tear drop. When the prosthesis tears, liquid will flow freely. This is very difficult to remove. This is however not life threatening.
BREAST ENLARGement: BREAST IMPLANTS WITH COHESIVE OR SOLID GEL
The solid cohesive silicone gel feels firmer than its liquid counterpart and is used more frequently for breast enlargement. Leaking does not occur with this type of prosthesis, even after eventual tears in the casing of the breast implant.
Quality wise this type of prosthesis is the best option because these implants have been proved to be safe and they are very close to the consistency of a normal breast. That’s why this type of implants is the choice of our team.
Patient reviews
Fantastic Clinic
Fantastic clinic. Working as a nurse in the NHS the standards in the clinic are out of this world. The staff are professional and despite my initial fears I felt very comfortable and cares for. Would definitely go back again.
BREAST ENLARGement: BREAST IMPLANTS WITH PHYSIOLOGIC SALINE SOLUTION
The prosthesis with the physiologic saline solution was very popular in the nineties. And this even after all the fuss regarding breast implants. With the breast enlargement the prosthesis is put into the body and filled there with the saline solution. The fluid enters through a tube and is closed with a valve. The prosthesis can be put in the body through a small incision. When leakage occurs, the saline solution is absorbed by the body. The valve is the cause that there are leakages more often, this may cause the breast to be a-symmetrical.
This type of prosthesis feels relatively unnatural and may be bumpy. Because the filler is a liquid rather than a gel, the breasts will not feel natural. The implants can also wrinkle. Physiologic saline solution breast implants are almost always slippery. This increases the risk of capsular contracture after the breast enlargement.
BREAST ENLARGement: MONO-BLOC PROSTHESIS FILLED WITH HYDRO GEL
The so-called mono-bloc prosthesis consists of a silicone casting filled with hydro gel. This gel contains 95% water and 5% sugar solution. The problem with the mono-bloc prosthesis is the risk of leakage. On the one hand the hydro gel may leak from the silicon prosthesis. On the other hand the hydro gel sometimes absorbs fluids from the body. This may cause swelling of the breast.

BREAST ENLARGement: ROUND BREAST IMPLANTS
Round silicone implants are ideal for women with slightly sagging breasts. Their breasts are already bigger at the bottom part. A round prosthesis will then fill in the top part to provide a beautiful, natural result.
In an up right position the round prosthesis have a tear drop shape. The effect is strengthened by a submuscular placing of the breast implant.
BREAST ENLARGement: ANATOMICAL BREAST IMPLANTS
Anatomical, tear drop or pear shaped silicone prosthesis provide beautiful results for both thick or thin skin. This type of breast implant has less filling on the top part, which provides, especially with a larger breast enlargement, a natural result.
With this type of breast enlarging a larger incision must be made, which leaves a bigger scar. The tear drop implant has the tendency to turn. A second surgery will then be necessary to put the breast implants again in an optimal position.
BREAST ENLARGement: SURFACE OF THE BREAST IMPLANTS
BREAST ENLARGement: SMOOTH BREAST PROSTHESIS
Breast implants were originally smooth. The risk of capsular contracture is higher with this kind of prosthesis. Our surgeon uses only breast implants with a coarser surface (textured breast implants).
BREAST ENLARGement: COARSE BREAST PROSTHESIS (textured breast implants)
The risk for capsular contracture is 2% – 3% with a coarser prosthesis after a breast enlarging. The coarse surface also limits the turning of the tear drop breast implants. The plastic surgeons at Clinic BeauCare only advise micro-textured breast implants.
