Reduce breast size : post-operative care

A breast reduction is done under full anaesthetic and lasts about 2 to 3 hours. You may go home the same day.
Drains (fine tubes) are often placed under the skin to drain excess moisture from the wounds. On average these draining tubes are removed approximately three days after the breast reduction.
A firm support bra is used for a month after the breast reduction to provide extra support. These special support bras are fitted straight after the operation.
Sport and strenuous activities are not recommended in the first week after the breast reduction. Most patients return to work after the first week.

The lifting effect of the breast reduction not only results in smaller, but also in firmer breast. Even though a breast reduction is a drastic operation, most women feel it is a positive experience.
